Thanks to the support of committed donors, sponsors, and partners, StoryCorps is able to reach out to groups of people whose stories deserve special attention. These specially funded initiatives allow us to dedicate the time, staff, and resources to seek out these important stories, with their personal, historical, and societal significance.

Past initiatives have recorded the stories of people affected by Hurricane Katrina, and of soldiers and their families at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Join our current Special Initiatives

The September 11th Initiative honors and remembers the stories and people affected by the events of September 11, 2001. These interviews will be housed in the permanent collection of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.

The Memory Loss Initiative reaches out to people affected by memory loss, encouraging them to share their stories. Specially trained staff offer support throughout the interview process.

The Griot Initiative is a one-year initiative to collect the stories of African Americans. These interviews will be archived at the future Smithsonian National Museum of African American and History and Culture.
